There are few things more frustrating than a slow computer. The problems can get compounded when you don’t know what the problem is. Believe it or not, there are some very simple solutions to your slow computer issue that you can take care of yourself. Even if you’re happy with your computer’s performance, you can still speed it up by using these five methods.
5. Close All Unused Applications
You have more applications running in the background of your computer than you may realize. You know that scheduling software that you downloaded two weeks ago and never used? It starts itself up and runs in the background, and it’s dragging your computer’s performance down.
The best way to fix this problem is to search your computer for the listing of startup applications. Once you find it, then you just cancel the ones that you don’t need. If you’re unsure of whether or not to cancel a particular application, then leave it alone. Better to play it safe than risk cancelling something your computer needs, and there are other ways to ensure your computer runs faster.
4. Clear Out Your Histories
Each time that you download something from the Internet, visit a website or share a document, it gets stored in your computer’s temporary cache files. After a while, all of this stored information slows your computer down, because your computer goes back and checks this information each time you do anything. The fastest way to get rid of this information and speed up your computer is to go into your Internet browser and delete your browsing history.
3. Get a Faster Internet Connection
A solid, fast Internet connection can be the difference between night and day. In some cases, there’s nothing wrong with your computer at all. Your Internet speed is slowed by your Internet connection. Fix that problem instantly by getting a faster connection and watch how much better your Internet experience will be.
2. Disable Your Web Browser Add-Ons
It may be a lot of fun to dress up your Internet browser in a pirate skin, but that little add-on is slowing down your Internet connection. There’s a section in your browser maintenance that allows you to shut down the add-ons you aren’t using. If you go through that list and cancel the add-ons you don’t need, then you’re sure to speed up your computer.
1. Make Sure Your Machine is Updated
Your computer may be running slow because you haven’t downloaded the latest updates to your operating system. Go into your operating system control panel and turn on the automatic updates. When your computer asks you if you want to run updates now, then you click “OK.” Once your computer is running on updated software, it should process more quickly and efficiently.
Your computer runs slow for a lot of reasons, but you have the ability to handle almost every one of them. When you notice that your computer is slowing down, take the time to run some simple tests and see how easy it can be to get your computer up to speed. What other valuable techniques have you found for making your PC run faster?
